Project Purpose
  • Identify the Grotto Foundation priority area under which you are applying, and describe your project purpose.

Organizational Capacity
Please describe the capacity of your organization in the following areas:
  • Leadership ? Briefly describe the administrative and educational background, cultural knowledge, and Native language proficiency of your organizational leadership.

  • Staff ? Briefly describe the educational/practitioner background, cultural knowledge, and language proficiency of your staff. Please include the number of staff and their role in your program.

  • Leadership & Staff Development ? Given the leadership and staff capacities you just described, what is the plan for sustaining and developing program leadership and staffing.

  • Approach or model ? What led you to choose the model of language revitalization for which you are seeking funding?

  • Planning ? Is your program based on established plan? If so, briefly describe the planning process and who was involved.

  • Program and Fund Development ? Does your organization have a program and fund development plan? If so, please describe.

Community Capacity
  • Briefly describe the tribal community you intend to impact with this project.

  • Describe your targeted learners or the participants of your program/project.

  • Describe any collaborations or partnerships, which may include official tribal, institutional, or community support.

  • If your organization or program engages in policy or advocacy work in language revitalization, please describe your objectives and efforts in this area.

Language Capacity
  • What is the tribal language and/or dialect you are seeking to restore? What is the history of that dialect in Minnesota?

  • Describe the language status of your targeted community, including the number of fluent speakers, first- and second-language speakers, their average age, and the number participating in your program. (Indicate whether actual or estimated numbers.)

  • What kinds of Native language activities, resources, and programs currently exist in your community? How does your program fit into this continuum?

  • How will language be retained and supported over time?
